Mr. Mert Oytun is currently a Ph.D. student in the Construction Engineering and Management department at the University of Southern California (USC), Los Angeles, California. He obtained his master’s degree in Civil Engineering from Middle East Technical University (METU) in 2020. He has distinguished academic success. After graduating from the undergraduate and graduate programs as the highest-ranking graduate, he maintains his Ph.D. studies with equal attainment. Consequently, he has received several academic scholarships throughout his academic life, including a Fulbright Ph.D. Scholarship. Besides his remarkable academic career, Mr. Mert Oytun is an ardent sportsman interested in several sports branches. Especially, swimming, diving, and sailing are indispensable parts of his life. He is an open water swimmer, diving instructor, and amateur sailor. He achieved to transcend from Asia to Europa by swimming. Hence, he acquired the title of a cross-continental swimmer in 2015. His current research interests include the following topics:

  • Automation and visualization of adaptive environments via construction technologies
  • Construction project management in practice
  • LEAN practices in the construction industry
  • Green buildings and life cycle assessment concepts
